Cookie Policy
Effective 2026-05-30 · Last updated 2026-05-30
This Cookie Policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on carets.app (the "Site"). It does not apply to the Carets mobile application, which uses no analytics or advertising cookies of any kind.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are used to make sites work, to remember preferences, and, in some cases, to measure usage. "Similar technologies" include local storage, pixels, and tags — we use only cookies and the browser's localStorage (to remember your consent choice).
2. The cookies we use
2.1 Strictly necessary (always on)
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Provider |
|---|---|---|---|
carets.consent.v1 (localStorage) | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies. | Until you clear browser storage or revoke consent below | Carets |
Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent under the ePrivacy Directive because they are required to provide a service you have asked for (here, to remember your preference about analytics).
2.2 Analytics (consent required)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate Site traffic. These cookies are off by default: we run Google's Consent Mode v2 with analytics_storage set to denied until you press "Accept" on the banner. If you accept, the following first-party cookies are set:
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Provider |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique users. | 2 years | Google Analytics |
_ga_<container-id> | Persists session state for GA4. | 2 years | Google Analytics |
GA4 is configured with IP anonymization on, and we have not enabled advertising features, demographics, or remarketing. Data is retained at the GA4 default of 14 months.
3. Cookies we do not use
- Advertising / retargeting cookies — none.
- Social-media trackers — none.
- Session-replay tools — none.
- Cross-site cookies — none.
4. Changing or withdrawing your choice
You can change your choice at any time:
- Click the button below to clear your stored preference and re-open the banner.
- Or clear cookies and site data for carets.app in your browser settings.
- Or enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser — we honour GPC as a "Decline" signal.
5. Browser controls
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge each provide controls under their privacy or settings menus. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent us from remembering your consent preference, which means the banner will re-appear on each visit.
6. Changes to this policy
If we add or remove cookies, we will update this page. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
7. More on privacy
See our Privacy Policy for a complete description of how we handle data.
